Garrick & Moz' Wedding
I started off by thanking Chris, my Mum, for her words welcoming Moz in to our family and about how she felt about Moz and the two of us together, and thanking everyone else for coming to share the day with us, travelling almost 50,000 miles combined from as far as San Francisco to as close as just a mile over the road.
I also thought about people who couldn't be with us - people we'd lost like parents, grandparents, siblings, children, spouses, aunts and uncles, lovers, friends and more. We shared a toast to family and friends, present and absent.
We thanked Imogen and Aimee first, for being such brilliant ring bearers, without a hairy foot in sight!
Then, we thanked Marc and Chris, our sons, for being our witnesses in the ceremony.
Next, we thanked Alek, Moz' cousin, and Keren, my sister, for delivering the readings for us in the ceremony.
Finally, we thanked my Mum and Dad who helped us in numerous ways including and not least in the table planning!
We did additionally thank anyone who offered us either practical help, or advice to get the day sorted.
I then talked about some of the practicalities - your menu selection being printed on the back of your name card so you would know when the servers came round what it was you'd chosen, and also how to use the custom poker chips at the bar to get a couple of drinks on us.
At the end of my speech, I broke with tradition and instead of offering a toast to my new spouse, which I knew would embarrass him, I asked everyone to raise their glasses and instead join me in a toast to love.
